Psych and Krautrock vinyl arrivals

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE

The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by guitarist/singer Anton Newcombe.

BORIS AND JOE VOLK
Split Release

"In the heady blue haze of 2007 a meeting of minds took place. Portishead curated ATP's Nightmare Before Christmas that year and amongst the artists they selected were the irrepressible Japanese band Boris and Bristol singer-songwriter Joe Volk. From seeing each other play that weekend, a friendship formed that lay the foundations for this Boris/Joe Volk release.
A year after ATP, Joe was asked to support Boris at their headline show in London and by 2011 the split-release project was fully underway. Now, 5 years to the day of their first encounter, Invada are proud to present this collaboration which will be available only on a heavy vinyl pressing. Boris are well known for spanning multiple genres of music throughout their 20 year history. Supremely heavy. Always unexpected. Their presence on stage is something to be witnessed. They have been classified as space rock, outsider metal, avant rock and many more, all giving a nod to the other-worldliness of the sound they create.

HOOKWORMS
Pearl Mystic is an absolutely thunderous statement of intent for Hookworms after a portentous couple of years of live shows and limited releases.

BLANK REALM
Go Easy
Pink 180gram Coloured vinyl. Fire Records are thrilled to announce that they have signed one of their favourite bands, Australian psychedelic pop outfit Blank Realm.
Their new album Go Easy initially came out on a limited edition, vinyl only run via the awesome tastemaker label Siltbreeze and in Australia on the equally wonderful Bedroom Suck, but now through Fire it will be getting the widely distributed release it deserves in March, on CD and Pink 180gram 12" LP.

Föllakzoid began in Santiago, Chile from what they describe as the result of, a product of a trance experience between friends, sort of a soul abduction in which they ve been living since 2008.

Record Store Day News

Our first Record Store update for 2013.
With the countdown to Record Store Day ticking away, we are very happy to announce that in addition to Record Store Day releases at our shop from 9am and the Record Fair in Mold at the Daniel Owen Community Centre from 10am we are aiming to go the extra mile this year. With this in mind we are very pleased to announce that ROPE, who as many of you will know put on the best music in Wrexham and Chester, are supplying Live Music and DJs at the Daniel Owen Community Centre on the day.
The Record Fair will be in the Main Hall downstairs as per usual on April 20th, but we have also hired the upstairs of the Centre.
One room will be allocated to the bands and ROPE DJs and here is the line up
THE REVOLUTIONARY SPIRIT
THE UNINVITED
KEITH ASTBURY
ROPE DJs
This something we are very excited about and thanks goes to Ross at ROPE and the Bands for making this possible.
Thats not all, RICHER SOUNDS will be present in one of the other rooms providing demos of Hi Fi equipment and a further room will be displaying Pop and Contemporary Art. FOCUS WALES too will be onsite with info and tickets for their amazing event the week after in Wrexham which will see Michael Rother  headline.
The standard 50p admission to the Fair will remain for the event but this also gets you into everything else.
At the shop we will be working hard up until Record Store Day to make sure we get our hands on some of the great releases anticipated. More news as we have it and will put all RSD releases up on our website the week before the day.

Jacks the lad!

Jack White Takes The Helm As Record Store Day 2013 Ambassador

It’s confirmed! Record Store Day is abundantly proud to announce Jack White as its Ambassador for 2013!

You already know that Record Store Day exists to support the independent record community, now a worldwide event in its 6th year with well over 1,000 stores around the globe in participation. As the event’s impassioned ambassador and a supremely respected music maker in his own rite, White has a few profound things to say about the way we communicate, take in art, issue forth ideas and generally get on as a society, so we’re going to get out of his way and let him say it…
Years ago someone told me that 1,200 high school kids were given a survey. A question was posed to them: Have you ever been to a stand-alone record shop? The number of kids that answered "yes" was... zero.

Zero? How could that be possible? Then I got realistic and thought to myself, "Can you blame them?" How can record shops (or any shop for that matter) compete with Netflix, TiVo, video games that take months to complete, cable, texting, the Internet, etc. etc? Getting out of your chair at home to experience something in the real world has started to become a rare occurrence, and to a lot of people, an unnecessary one. Why go to a bookstore and get a real book? You can just download it. Why talk to other human beings, discuss different authors, writing styles and influences?  Just click your mouse.  Well here's what they'll someday learn if they have a soul; there's no romance in a mouse click.  There's no beauty in sitting for hours playing video games (anyone proud of that stop reading now and post your opinion in the nearest forum).  The screen of an iPhone is convenient, but it’s no comparison to a 70mm showing of a film in a gorgeous theater.  The Internet is two-dimensional…helpful and entertaining, but no replacement for face-to-face interaction with a human being.  But we all know all of that, right?  Well, do we?  Maybe we know all that, but so what?
Let's wake each other up.
The world hasn't stopped moving. Out there, people are still talking to each other face-to-face, exchanging ideas and turning each other on. Art houses are showing films, people are drinking coffee and telling tall tales, women and men are confusing each other and record stores are selling discs full of soul that you haven’t felt yet.  So why do we choose to hide in our caves and settle for replication?  We know better.  We should at least. We need to re-educate ourselves about human interaction and the difference between downloading a track on a computer and talking to other people in person and getting turned onto music that you can hold in your hands and share with others.  The size, shape, smell, texture and sound of a vinyl record; how do you explain to that teenager who doesn't know that it's a more beautiful musical experience than a mouse click?  You get up off your ass, you grab them by the arm and you take them there.  You put the record in their hands.  You make them drop the needle on the platter.  Then they'll know.
Let's wake each other up.
As Record Store Day Ambassador of 2013 I’m proud to help in any way I can to invigorate whoever will listen with the idea that there is beauty and romance in the act of visiting a record shop and getting turned on to something new that could change the way they look at the world, other people, art, and ultimately, themselves.
Let's wake each other up.
Record Store Day co-founder, Michael Kurtz of the Department Of Record Stores, who, last month, was made a Chevalier by the French Minister Of Culture during MIDEM, says of White’s appointment, “Jack White is a record store owner, a record label head, a record maker, and a record consumer. The passion, pride, creativity and independent spirit he puts into every one of those roles is undisputed. We can think of no better Ambassador for Record Store Day 2013, and are thrilled to have Jack White on board to celebrate the culture of the independent record store.”
