St.Marys Club closure
Very sorry to read in the LEADER yesterday that St.Marys Club in Flint
has had to close. We have had two very enjoyable Record Fairs there in
recent years (the last just back in September) it was a great little
venue. After existing for half a Century the local Community will also
miss it, so heres hoping it can re-open at some point in the future.
Our Record Fair calendar is not affected as we visited St.Marys Bi Annually, our September Fair in 2016 is at Connahs Quay Civic Hall.

The Good Life Experience - Saturday headliners
PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING - SATURDAY NIGHT HEADLINERS!
AT THE GOOD LIFE EXPERIENCE (Hawarden Estate, September 18th-20th)
"Public Service Broadcasting is the corduroy-clad brainchild of London-based J. Willgoose, Esq. who, along with his drumming companion, Wrigglesworth, is on a quest to inform, educate and entertain audiences around the globe. PSB’s uniquely spell-binding live AV Transmissions see them weave samples from old public information films, archive footage and propaganda material around live drums, guitar, banjo and electronics as they teach the lessons of the past through the music of the future – beaming our past back at us through vintage TV sets and state of the art modern video projection devices. The band are a favourite on
Cerys' BBC 6 Music radio show, and their latest album The Race for Space is played on a daily basis at TGLE HQ". They also currently hold the position of our biggest selling album of the year. We will be there with a New Vinyl pop up stall all weekend.

RSD overview
Eclectic and wide ranging product list offers something for everyone this record store day
With Record Store day just over 2 weeks away and with 3 out of 4
releases this year on indie labels, some of the Record Store Day shops
talked to the organisers about their pick of the releases.
And with over 550 releases there really is something for every music
fan from metal, indie or dance to country, folk and soul. Whether you
are a long time vinyl enthusiast looking for that first edition or an
unusual shaped vinyl or someone just discovering the joys of an
independent record shop, this year’s list has a host of treasures to
discover.New material and first time vinyl releases to delight the fans
Some of the exclusive new releases attracting attention in particular include emerging singer song writer Courtney Barnett with her brand new track Kim’s Caravan on 12”. New material is also on the way from Glasgow duo Honeyblood with ‘No Big Deal’ released on 7” and something which also promises not to disappoint is Animal Collective’s 2005 EP ‘Prospect Hummer’ which is set to be released on vinyl for the very first time.
Beautiful vinyl for those mellow moments
Not only can you relax and unwind to some amazing sounds, these vinyl records will also grace the walls of any home. At the mellow end of the spectrum, Bella Union are treating fans to a 7” of Father John Misty’s ‘I Love You, Honeybee’ on clear red heart shaped vinyl (swoooon). A facsimile of Anne Briggs eponymous 1971 album is also making an unexpected return and St Paul & The Broken Bones will be releasing an Alabama shaped vinyl of ‘Live from the Alabama Theatre’.
For the Dubstep and Soul fans
Turning it up a notch on the Dubstep scene is Machine Drum’s Vapor City Remixes on 12” from Ninja Tune Records with artwork by Dom Flannigan and Éclair Fifi for LuckyMe. Wilkinson & TC are also releasing Hit the Floor on a one sided 12” picture disc.
And over in the Soul corner, Soul Jazz records present Down Beat Special, a limited edition 7” box set with ten killer tracks from Studio One as Soul Jazz take part in Record Store Day for the very first time. Also released on vinyl for the first time is Northern Soul – The Soundtrack, on Double 180-gram numbered vinyl from Demon Records.
Compilations and split 7 inches
And for those who just can’t make up their minds, there are a number of exclusive compilation records and split 7 inches to satisfy the ears. Alcopop have partnered with a number of labels to produce the ‘Sensible Record Labels’ compilation which will be available on red, black and yellow crush vinyl including a track from each of the labels involved.
Daughter and Warpaint have also joined forces and revealed they’ll be remixing one another’s work in a split 12” of Winter and Feeling Alright.
Record Store Day takes place on the 18th April with over 220 independent record shops and thousands of music fans coming together to celebrate their unique culture and the art of music.
Record Store Day was conceived 9 years ago in the USA and was brought to the UK a year later. Now in its 8th year and co-ordinated by the Entertainment Retailers Association and Spencer Hickman, the day brings together hundreds of the UK’s independent record shops to celebrate their own unique culture. Exclusive vinyl is made available on the day and the stores often have live shows and other in store events to celebrate the day.

Record Store Day update

Record Store Day 2015 Ambassador
Iconic Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl, has been named the official ambassador of Record Store Day 2015.
The Nirvana sticksman and Foos frontman will be leading the way for worldwide Record Store Day festivities as the culture of independent record shops is celebrated.
Grohl, be it a legend at the mic with a guitar, behind a drum kit or in the directors chair for a documentary, instinctively pulls together the ethos and attitude of Record Store Day for artists and fans, alike.
And the big guy himself has something he wanted to say about the importance of record stores too:
I found my calling in the back bin of a dark, dusty record store.
1970s K-Tels Blockbuster 20 Original Hits by the original Stars featuring Alice Cooper, War, Kool and the Gang, Average White Band and many more, bought at a small record shop in my suburban Virginia neighborhood, it was this record that changed my life and made me want to become a musician. The second that I heard Edgar Winters "Frankenstein kick in, I was hooked. My life had been changed forever. This was the first day of the rest of my life.
Growing up in Springfield, Virginia in the 70s and 80s, my local independent record stores were magical, mysterious places that I spent all of my spare time (and money) in, finding what was to eventually become the soundtrack of my life. Every weekend I couldn't wait to take my hard earned, lawn mowing cash down for an afternoon full of discovery. And, the chase was always as good as the catch. I spent hours flipping through every stack, examining the artwork on every cover, the titles and credits, searching for music that would inspire me, or understand me, or just to help me escape. These places became my churches, my libraries, my schools. They felt like home. And, I don't know where I would be today without them.
More recently, Ive been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to rediscover this sense of excitement, that magical feeling of finding something all ones own, by watching my kids go through it. Let me tell you: Nothing makes me prouder than watching my daughters spin that first Roky Erickson LP one of them picked out for their very own on one of our weekend trips to the record store. Or to watch the reverence they have as they handle their Beatles vinyl. How carefully they replace the albums into their sleeves, making sure they’re placed back onto the self in the proper sequence. Watching them realize how crucial and intertwined every part of this experience is, I relive the magic of my earliest experiences with vinyl singles and albums, their artwork, liners notes etc. all over again and again.
I believe that the power of the record store to inspire is still alive and well, and that their importance to our next generation of musicians is crucial. Take an afternoon (and some hard earned lawn mowing money) and please support them.
You never know, it might change your life forever, too.
