Vinyl Record sales up...but hang on

So, it seems Abba,Adele,Ed and Elton saved the day if you believe the press. I am usually very calm and happy go lucky but this made my blood boil! What the press failed to mention was that the total of Adeles pressings (we were briefed as it caused a backlog for independent releases) was just 0.3 percent of vinyl pressed in 2021, given Abba,ED and Elton sold similar numbers we are probably looking a maximum of 1 percent and Adele has massive amounts unsold (good luck with that after Christmas). Now this is nothing against these artists but please lets here about the bands, labels and record shops who make up the other 99 percent. There has already been disrespectful comments about those who collect vinyl and the need to collect....they just have no idea! Probably wriiten by journalists who dont frequent Record Shops but are happy to fill their house with the latest phones must haves.

I just feel very sad that over 300 shops and all those labels work so hard to see this in the it just me or can you relate to this?

Pop, online listening parties have there place but it pales into insignifance compared with the day to day of the Indie sector.

5 milliom plus vinyl have been sold, Cassette and CD sales are up and it is really something to celebrate

End of the Year

Firstly, wishing you all a very Happy New Year and our shop will be back open on Thursday 6th January.

2021 has for all been challenging once again with disruption, uncertainty and diminished social activity, so we do hope next year will prove to be a bit closer to the normality we once took for granted. Our shop has held up well due the loyal support we are so thankful for and the Fairs (one only) were a revelation. With restrictions currently different in all four corners of the UK planning Record Fairs is not as easy as it used to be but we are actively pursuing ideas. The first 4 months of 2022 should (fingers crossed) see us attending an important meeting with labels, distributors,Record Shops in London followed by the visit of Paul Draper to the shop on February 1st, our first Record Fair of the year 2nd April and Record Store Day at the end of April....sure gaps inbetween will be filled as the calendar flips over. This is the time of the year when excitement builds and you start to think about what you can improve on, these maybe small changes or new ventures all things to consider. What is not in question is our enthusiasim and committment to carry on and enjoy it as we go,

All the best,

Black Friday update

Record Store Days sister event, Black Friday, is set to return on Friday 26th November with a super special list of exclusive vinyl releases from the likes of Lana Del Rey, Aerosmith, Kali Uchis, U2 and many more! Over one hundred artists have come together to create limited edition vinyl records that will only be available from independent record stores up and down the UK on this day.

Since 2021, organisers of Record Store Day have worked to shift the culture of Black Friday by moving away from the mass-produced, low priced nature of the day to creating an array of unique and special vinyl records that will bring value and joy to collectors all over the world. The official UK RECORD STORE DAY website now has a list of all titles for the day, we will be participating and are currently curating our own list of titles we hop to have in for the day. More soon and we will list on our website RSD page once our orders are placed.

Love Record Stores...theres more.

Although LRS has now passed ITS NOT OVER YET, due to the constraints of vinyl pressing plants many titles are yet to be released between September 2021 and January 2022. Our approach will be to list on arrival so check our website online store page each Thursday to see if the title you are after is listed. There will be only one or two of each as all extremely limited pressings.

Much love for store

Love Record Store today was different but very enjoyable and thanks to all for support once again. Doing it online at 9am and then opening up the shop at 11am seemed to work well, It is very different to RSD but maybe rethinking how to deliver the event made it all the more interesting. There are quite a few more LRS titles to come over the next few weeks and Months and we will keep you informed as and when.
